Diamonds in China:

"History:

Unless you hunt diamonds in unexpected places, it might be
irrelevant whether the Peking Man was a sedentary or busy
fellow. However, we know that his contemporary used to walk
miles to the fishing pools on top of gravel bars and likely
passed by shiny crystals. It was here, on these Yellow-Skin
Gravel Beds of the Middle Pleistocene Yuquan Formation, where
diamonds were found in Shandong Province.
Ancient Records from the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) indicated
presence of diamonds in river sands of the Yangtze River basin.
Then, an English missionary noted rumors on diamonds in the
Shandong Province and published observation in 1917. A French
gemmologist wrote in 1914 about diamonds in China, which were
reported, according to him, already in 1875, A letter on my
presentation to the Czechoslovakian Geological Society dealing
with this interesting reference was sent to Chinese Academy of
Science in 1958 and later, in 1985, discussed with Professor
Zhu Fengsan in Changchun. One of the sites mentioned in this
French book remarkably coincides with lamproites uncovered
later near to Beijing. (Dr. J.G. Strnad - 1995)"
