books with uncut pages in expensive libraries..

Ohh, at least in Dallas they are honest enough not to even bother to take them out of the library. In New York and San Francisco, people buy books like that to put on their home bookshelves, carefully making sure to break the binder and penning in a few margin notes in case someone visits and pulls it off the shelf to browse through, and reading perhaps the first chapter or two so they are not caught with snobbish pantaloons around their tushes at gallery openings.
