Just an observation about modem download rates:

As x2 rolls out in full force this month (it is said that March comes in like a lion) I think many x2 users will report much faster transmission rates. While some of this improvement will result from higher connection rates (I'm anticipating most people to report connections at 44-50K) I believe the biggest improvement will be due to better data transmissions at the ISP itself which will be a direct benefit of that ISP upgrading its USR servers and hubs.

My basis for this observation is that despite the fact that I consistently connect to my ISP at 31K, actual transmission rates vary significantly. Most days my web page (located on one of my ISPs servers) downloads instantly, other days it is much slower. It appears that the number of users connected to my ISP, and the amount of overall net traffic are a much greater determining factor on my net surfing speed than my actual connection rate.

Which way is the train heading now?
