by Stockwatch business reporter

Microforum was reviewed in Forum Watch last week. A Canada Stockwatch article on April 19 reported that Microforum's board had put a planned news release offering a preliminary statement of the company's fourth quarter results on hold. The move came after consultations with the company's auditors and legal counsel. The article also reported that another deal involving recently acquired Software Guaranty's CALMS solution is expected to be announced shortly. On April 22, the National Post reported that Microforum's stock had been rising on optimism that the company's presence on Microsoft's electronic commerce policy-setting council will lead to more clients.
Early in the week, Jp mulder picked up on a previous suggestion by Bam's to discuss some of Microforum's competitors, posting a list of such companies identified by Microforum. ChainSaw joined the discussion, suggesting: "I'm not too concerned about competition for MCF. If they keep making e-commerce agreements at the same rate and receiving royalties on these sites they are developing we will be rewarded greatly with the share price. I have not heard very much expounding on the topic of income generated from royalties, so this may become interesting." Interest turned to other matters in an active week of trading for Microforum. A note of caution was offered by Bhunga: "I hope all MCF longs are paying particular attention to (you know, the other recently listed Nasdaq stock)...not to say that the results there are typical (as I don't know)...but I certainly see a lot of pre-Nasdaq hype being reacted to negatively in the real markets. And it is for this reason that I think we should be careful when it comes to be our turn." Marc agreed but went on to note: "Nonetheless, on more positive note, you have to admit we held up incredibly well Monday even though Nasdaq index declined some 6 per cent. With or without Nasdaq push, I believe we are going to make it anyway. It would just be nice to benefit from a euphoric upside manic wave if we have the chance to." As it turned out, there was some upside movement for Microforum prompting Griff to write: "I'm glad I can finally breathe again! Go MCF!" As at least one forum participant admitted to selling some shares as the price moved up, Enzy suggested that he found it contradictory that anyone talking about a $15 price for Microforum would sell at these levels. A different perspective was offered by Bhunga: "I know when I traded it, it made me feel funny but I got over it. I have a core holding that is long-term but with all this predictable action it is difficult not to sell high and buy back low. I trust however that doing that will backfire one day as we say good-bye to the lower prices." Microforum ended the week at $3.73.
