To take advantage of multiple CPUs you have to have some sort of communications anyway. A single thread can only use a single CPU, regardless of the hardware/OS you choose. To try and take a "12-64 way box" and run a single process on it just isn't typical - for any application.

Did you have some application in mind that was giving you grief with this??
