U.S. Robotics Teams With Prodigy for Network Expansion and x2 Internet Access for Prodigy's Online Services

SKOKIE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1997--

Prodigy Expands Network With Continued Deployment of

U.S. Robotics' Total Control Enterprise Network Hub at

More Than 165 Points of Presence

U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ:USRX) today announced that Prodigy Services Corporation has ordered U.S. Robotics' Total Control Enterprise Network Hub products to provide high-speed access to its online and Internet services. The equipment is being deployed at more than 165 Prodigy points of presence nationwide. Prodigy Services also is supporting U.S. Robotics' x2(TM) technology, which provides Internet and online connections nearly twice as fast as those currently available over standard phone lines.

Prodigy is among the major online services deploying the Total Control Enterprise Network Hub for dial access. More than 400 regional, national and global Internet Service Providers and online services are committed to supporting U.S. Robotics' x2 technology to date -- representing a total of more than 18 million consumer and business Internet subscribers.

"We selected U.S. Robotics because of its reputation as a premier dial access vendor for online and Internet access," said Gerry Mueller, president and general manager, Prodigy Network. "x2 will provide our customers with real benefits as they continue to access more robust content from the Internet, and we're impressed that USR's Total Control Hubs can be software upgraded to x2 -- a major differentiator in the remote access marketplace."

"U.S. Robotics is excited to continue providing a comprehensive solution for Prodigy's online and Internet access services," said Ross Manire, senior vice president and general manager of U.S. Robotics' Network Systems Division. "Our Enterprise Network Hub is the premier platform for providers of information access because of its flexibility, software upgradability and superior performance in environments where access to information must be maintained 24 hours a day."

Prodigy will deploy U.S. Robotics' Total Control Enterprise Network Hub with the integrated NETServer remote access engine. Subscribers will be dialing into Prodigy to download graphics-intensive files and other data at nearly double the current analog modem speed, thanks to U.S. Robotics' x2 technology.
