Rambi, a small, and final for this evening, for real, comment about Moby Dick. I hold it as one of the half-dozen-or-so most inspirational things I have read.

I read too slowly. Some sort of astigmatism. And Moby Dick was read in a bristling NE preppy acacemic environment. It took weeks, with daily reconaissances (that is no doubt not a word).

I saw the symbolism in the whale, in the captain, in the first mate, and, also, I believe, in some person back in the home port.

I was thrilled - and remain thrilled in recollection.

ps: I did the Caine Mutiny on my own - and like it likewise. g.
