Tenchusatsu, your reply makes a lot of sense. But the cost at 100% yield is so low the cost of silicon isn't material unless your yields are absolutely wretched. How many K6-2s do you think AMD actually nets from an 8" wafer?

It's one die, two dice but even that isn't strictly correct since a "die" is defined as a cube with six equal sides. It is more accurate to say that AMD "dices wafers into chips". Perhaps "shreads" is more appropriate since so few of those chips are ever packaged and sold.
