Some consolidation has happened but not enough. Even in the graphics arena there are still too many players. I was thinking, however, in a broader sense. There are plenty of good fits.

CREAF could acquire NMGC. Neomagic specializes is notebooks graphics where they have about 60% market share (and growing). They also do some notebook sound I believe. They have just acquired a couple companies themselves to help bring to market products for DVD and digital cameras. They are highly profitable with tremendous growth. Their embedded dram technology gives them a distinct advantage when portability and power consumption are key concerns.

CREAF and Diamond (hate even suggesting it) could merge. Certainly, that would help lessen price erosion.

CREAF could merge with a consumer electronics company. Up to now CREAF has been primarily relying on PC's products for business. They correctly are attempting to expand their opportunity into consumer electronics. Nomad for example. Panasonic and Sony both have ties to the PC industry but are more associated with consumer electronics. Many see the PC and home entertainment/theatre system become one system. I think both parties could benefit from their products strengths and from their strong brand recognitions.

CREAF could buy nVidia.

ATI could buy NMGC. ATI is expanding beyond the desktop where they have really done well lately. ATI has been rapidly increasing their presence in notebooks. In fact, they have most of the market share that NMGC doesn't. It would make sense for them to acquire NMGC if they could sell it to the authorities.

What about ESST, CUBE, SIII, TRID, OAKT...etc. there are too many players.
