Not optimistic, trying to be realistic.
I wonder why everyone is so optimistic except me about the short term effect of all of this
It is a bit scary having the threat of AOL siding with Comcast on this bid for UMG. That threat may be enough for the stock to take a short term hit. I'm trying to think like Case here. Why should he risk pissing off T, taking a hit earnings and stock value-wise for a bunch of cable assets that he never wanted to bid for in the first place if he can simply use the threat as leverage to get what he really wants....access?
Same thing with MSFT. Here is a company that has perfected the art of making huge amounts of money without ever owning huge amounts of capital assets (they even rent a good portion of their employees). Their stake in Comcast was a foot in the door, so they would have say in the software in the set top boxes. Why would they want to own a large portion of cable assets if they didn't have to?
