I may have misunderstood you, but if you think that the material cost of the wafer is the main cost for AMD, you are wrong. What costs the most is the "processing" of those wafers. Equipment required to do so are extremely expensive and they have only a few years of usable life. Depreciation cost of these equipment is huge. Providing the clean room and the fab technicians is also expensive. The material cost of the wafer is relatively small
