Re: Aranea, $16 a share and my impressions of the CC

Yeah, I was impressed also by the generally positive tone of the CC. But I'm not sure I can honestly say that it was that much different from every CC Noam has given over the last two years: He is ALWAYS enthusiastic about new products that are to ship in a quarter or two. All of us on this thread have know about Charlotte's Web/Aranea/terabit router for at least 9 months; also fiberdriver.

But what's to get excited about over another quarter of losing money - that in one of the hottest industries around - and after 34 previous consecutive quarters of increasing earnings. And what about the Edgeblaster series of products. None of you has mentioned that. It came out late in the Q & A and Noam admitted that this was selling "below expectations."

All I'm saying is I've been impressed before with MRVC's CC only to be horribly disappointed - like with the July 98 CC which was soon followed by the doomsday Aug 98"pre-announcement."

That said, my favorite parts of the CC have already been mentioned, but I had a slightly different take.

l. Where the analyst asked Noam about the "changing competitive marketplace" - referring of course to the FORE takeover. Apropos of nothing contained in the question, Noam jumped right to the heart of the matter and blurted out that $16 a share would be "inadequate." He thenwent on to make the very valid point (IMO) that "as competitors are taken over, it opens opportunities for small, vertically integrated (networking) firms."

2. When he was talking about Charlotte's Web and Aranea and its capacity/capability(?) of 128 GBs vs 24 GBs for the start-up firm that Siemans paid $240 million for. Hey, that's the total capitalization of MRVC now!!!!!(Strongly suggesting that we have a lot of potential to grow.

One last point: Aranea is being developed in Israel. But an analyst asked about another router - that he thought was comparable - being developed in Chatsworth. Did Noam say that this Chatsworth router was on the order of the "Jupiter" router and was being developed for the enterprise market? If so, that's pretty impressive in its own right.

I hope you guys are right and we just explode upwards tomorrow. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Bruce
