GNET longs, any concerns over the AT&T bid for MediaOne Group ?
I read in WSJ and Investors Daily that AT&T wants to be the biggest cable operator and phone company. They are moving fast as next year the RBOC's can begin offering long distance services and cutting into AT&T's core business. In 1999 the slices of the AT&T revenue pie are 33% consumer long distance, 27% business long distance, 18% business data & internet, 11% video, and 10% wireless. By 2004 they predict 33% business data & internet, 17% business long distance, and 13% consumer long distance.
If AT&T buys MediaOne they will reach 25% of 100 million homes in the US. AT&T must tread lightly however as there is an FCC Regulation stating an operator cannot reach more than 30% of the homes that can potentially subscribe to cable.
This leaves room / market for Paul Allen to come in under AT&T and ATHM. If Paul properly packages G2Net with his Charter Communications plus his holdings in Dreamworks, Priceline and Value America, perhaps pick up an "on line" auction company along the way we could be in very good position.
Thoughts, comments, insight anyone ?
Respectfully,
Gardener
