Philip - Re: " Today's rise occurred on lower than usual volume.
Volume 18 million vs avg. daily 35 million. "

Beware - prior to the 2-for-1 stock split, Intel's average volume was around 18 million shares/day.

After the 2 for 1 split the "historic" number then becomes 36 million - SPLIT ADJUSTED !

However, the number of shares traded After the split is still about 18 to 25 million.

The trading volume is still in the same ball park in # shares/day even though the shares are now worth half as much.

Remember - many buyers and sellers "trade" in the same volumes post split as they did pre-split. Hence, trading volume post split is still about equal to the volume pre-split.
