Well, here's my opinion.

These type of "news" agencies are no better than an infomercial on television, except that when "news" is released under their trademark, it can mislead the casual reader into believing that the content has been verified for accuracy and truthfulness. The truth is (from the press release announcing the lawsuit): Based on the Webnode crew's assurances that the press release was genuine, Business Wire distributed the news of Webnode's purported DOE contract over its wire service and posted it on the businesswire.com website. So if this is how they "verified" the genuineness of Webnode.com, the observer is left wondering how well they verify and confirm the content of "news" from real companies. One can well imagine the conversation: "Reporter": "Mr. Fox, you're absolutely sure that there is nothing happening in the henhouse? You swear to that?" Mr Fox: "Oh, yes. Everything in the henhouse is under control and my release attests to that. The check is in the mail." "Reporter": "Okay."...

Webnode.com was clearly a parody and an April Fool's joke. And anyone with any intelligence understood that fact. I saw a news release from another service that merely said something to the effect that "The prior news release regarding Webnode.com was an April Fool's joke. The jokes on us. Congratulations to the perpetrators." or words to that effect. If someone can find the real response and post it to this thread, thanks in advance.

BW apparently has no sense of humor. In my opinion, this whole thing is over the fact that they're embarrassed as all get out to have had their verification procedures (or lack thereof) exposed by a bunch of amateur posters in an internet chat room. In my opinion, BW's lawsuit is precipitously close to a SLAPP lawsuit, and if a court should see it that way, then the defendants in this action have clear recourse for a counter action. We shall all closely observe the outcome of these legal proceedings.
