David, I like your story. I'd like to subscribe to the newspapers you subscribe to that include those stories. Please forward addresses and monthly rates. :-) Do you have any interesting and profitable forward stories on NXTL or BBA?

The 55 cent burger is the most mis-explained promo in history and, at a minimum, MCD has to be congratulated for the free publicity they've received to promote their phony "discount." A loss leader burger is designed to attract "dealers", those cheapskates looking for a "deal." By requiring customers to buy fries and a watered down soda, they will effectively eliminate dealers from their stores. Dealers, especially students and young adults who are strapped for cash, buy the cheap burger and water. The truth is that MCD will sell a value meal at $2.60 or so vs. about $2.90. While it doesn't sound as good as a 55 cent not-so-big Mac, it's closer to the truth.

Additionally, without fixing their quality problems, MCD will not succeed to any degree that will hurt FM. The biggest challenge facing FM is California's minimum wage increases, both today and a year from now. Given that MCD has to deal with the same issues, I wonder how Ronald McDunce will deal with them. Maybe lower prices further? :-)
