"..While results for the quarter were disappointing, our theme parks and resorts continued to deliver record results, and we continued to invest in new initiatives designed to enhance our long-term growth - in location-based entertainment, cable programming, and the cruise business. With our partner, Infoseek Corporation, we successfully launched the GO Network, which is now one of the leading domestic narrowband portals on the Internet, and separately we continue to explore new Internet initiatives such as international portals and broadband portal and content services. On the other hand, our home video results were impacted by a variety of factors, including our releasing fewer of our valuable library titles. In Consumer Products, merchandise associated with this year's film and television programming has fallen short of expectations and difficult conditions in international markets continued to impact our licensing revenues. Still, we remain focused on the long term, and on investing to sustain and build upon the unparalleled strength of the Disney franchise.'' |
