Hopefully it was apparent to all by my argument- and the 2nd amendment itself- that I made a horrible gaffe. My sentence "I maintain that the people weren't granted the right to keep and bear arms in order to BE the militia ...they were granted that right in order to REGULATE it" should have been phrased "I maintain that the people's right to bear arms wasn't RECOGNIZED by the 2nd amendment in order that they BE the militia, but rather, it was recognized so that they might regulate the militia. Or something like that. Thanks to you and thanks to The Street for the fine link.
