Interleaf Adds Microsoft to Its Early Adopter Program for XML-based e-Content Solution; Microsoft to Test BladeRunner for Generating Training Courseware
Business Wire - April 27, 1999 11:21
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1999--Interleaf, Inc. (Nasdaq:LEAF) today announced that Microsoft(R) has become a Product Verification and Test site for Interleaf's XML-based e-content(TM) solution, BladeRunner(TM). Microsoft will evaluate BladeRunner to publish and re-purpose the curriculum components of the Microsoft Mastering Series training courseware. Interleaf's BladeRunner Product Verification and Testing Program allows partners to receive pre-release software, develop XML-based prototypes and perform application testing in partnership with Interleaf's development organization.

"Microsoft is testing XML for the recreation of dynamic content," said Craig Lokken, senior program manager, research and development of Mastering Series technologies at Microsoft. "BladeRunner's promise may allow our content creation associates to develop new training modules based in Microsoft Word and to publish in reuseable XML format. By building a reuseable set of training modules, Microsoft hopes to reduce time to market for new product training as well as diversify our training delivery options."

The Microsoft Mastering Series (http://msdn.microsoft.com/mastering/) are content-rich, self-paced, interactive training tools designed to help developers quickly master application development with Microsoft tools and technologies, ranging from Microsoft Windows operating system-based applications to client/server solutions incorporating the latest Internet and COM technologies, and are distributed to Microsoft Certified Technical Education Centers (Microsoft CTECs) in electronic form, CD-ROM and via the Microsoft Web site.

"We are pleased to add Microsoft to the growing list of companies working with us to test and build applications around our XML-based e-content solution," stated Jaime Ellertson, Interleaf's President and CEO. "Our strategy for BladeRunner is to enable companies to easily leverage 'e-content for e-commerce' by providing a solution that allows for the creation of reusable content through Microsoft Word, combined with the power of XML-based structured content, for dynamic publishing to Web applications."

BladeRunner is currently being implemented in an early adopter phase throughout the United States and Europe. These early adopters are using a pre-release version of the product to evaluate XML as an effective information standard and apply that knowledge to solve specific business problems. Version 1.0 of the product will be released in June 1999.
