Shalom,
Again, I am not sure it matters who they hated more, only that they hated.
The other day, in the Tribune, they quoted several students who said these would frequently talk of their hatred for Jews and African Americans, but mostly for jocks. Unfortunately, I don't have a link for that, it was a couple of days ago.
The fact that one of these youths was of a partially Jewish heritage, I think just underscores the self loathing and low self esteem that must have been present.
Shalom, there are many countries that have strong religious presences and that suffer from similar occurrences. It happens in all countries with all types of religious backgrounds. It happens all over the Mid-east with strong jewish and muslim backgrounds. It happens in Ireland with a stron Christian background. It happens in India and pakistan with strong hindu and bhuddist backgrounds.
what needs to be taught is tolerance and the inherent worthiness of ALL people, with ALL backgrounds. when people learn to respect the value of everyone, only then will true healing and understanding happen.
The funny thing is that most people feel if value everyone, then my group will somehow be less special or have a watered down value. That is not true. It is when everyone is included, we can only then begin to fully understand the magnifcence of all of our various backgrounds and all will stand out for their unique traits, each becoming even more special and meaningful.
