NTT's version of WCDMA is anything but vapourware. NTT viewed the patent settlement as a green light to proceed with their current plans. Any convergence between the two standards at this point will have to be achievable through software upgrades only.

That said, I believe Irwin stated in one of the more recent CC's that they fully intend to sell product into both markets. (i.e. both CDMA modes of the new CDMA standard). And if I'm not mistaken, he alluded to the fact that (WCDMA) development was well underway.
