michael...sales methods changing...e-commerce causing that...catalogue sellers fail as do direct sellers...but at times the "tire kicker", has only the ability to "kick" a "dry rotted" tire at the retail level...for the retail clerk will try to always sell that "stale loaf of bread" at a discount, before it becomes rock hard...and even you can't deny the desired natural fifo progression of inventory at the retail level.....cpq setting up instore "direct sale" ordering centers in circuit city...you order, they send direct to your house...a bit perverse because you have to give the retailer his due for floor space and associated sales...but i'm sure the circuit city clerks are instructed to push the customer toward the inventory...as in "what do i have to do, to get you to drive home today in this vehicle that is sitting on my lot"....marketing psychology, basic human nature...and that in itself will always provide for an upper tier market, which never can exist with a "commodity"....as in "air jordans" instead of "k-mart" generics, you get the point, don't you<g>!
