Guess again - bet you it is not Datek's money! Believe it or not, I am not making up the following. I sent a cashier's check for over $52,000 to Datek by FedEx to the correct Datek address for getting overnight mail deposits, and their mailroom signed for it at 10:23 AM on a Monday AM in early March. I started calling late the following day to find out where it was. No luck. They cashed it finally on Wednesday, AND PUT IT IN SOMEONE ELSE'S ACCOUNT. (The number of that account only varied from mine by a couple digits, so it was a reasonable mistake, said the Datek "customer service" guy. ) Even after I faxed them a copy of the cashier's check, with my account number etc all correct, and the bank's evidence that Datek had cashed my check, they REFUSED to deposit the $52 K into my account until they "found" the money. And that took them 3 days. Finally they even delayed giving me back my money until they called the guy whose account they had put it in to ask if it was his money. If he had not been so honest as to admit that the $52,000 extra was not his, I bet they would have told me tough luck, send your money to Datek and even if we sign for it we may just steal it for a while, your risk? And then they took another day to make it available in my account. I missed a week of trading my money. Datek "could do nothing", despite my practically hourly calls from Wednesday morning on. They finally gave me TEN FREE TRADES and 4% interest for the week. I still cannot believe either the incompetance, the gall to not even attempt to make a wronged customer feel even partially compensated, or the illegality of their retaining control of my money even after sending proof that would obligate them to restore it to me immediately, rather than steal it from me for a week. |
