and why is it considered a "commodity" in your mind...should i assume that you consider the automobile a commodity?.....that which is a "commodity" is applicable to all things in a class being equal, identical,and serving the same exact fit,form and function,one does not do any more than another...same-same<g>.....buyers do not decide what makes a "commodity"...neither does market pressure....the sales approach of the manufacturer or producer does....as in "one size fits all"...and we know that does not hold true with any "customizable" and "assembled" product which is able to suit the requirements of many types of users....that is where you make a serious mistake in analysing the market dynamic going forward, falling into the current "buzzword" trap, oft times used to explain a false analogy......easy to make such a mistake....as far as mr hewlett and mr packard...the statement was offered to prove what happens when basic business premises are strayed from...as in importance of revenue growths over profit<g>...
