Edamo, Oranges are a commodity. They don't all taste the same. They aren't all the same size. They don't all ripen at the same time. Your definition is faulty.

A PC is a commodity because there is very little difference between them and what difference there is is supplied by outside producers, not by the boxmakers. In other words, a Celeron may be different from a Pentium II, o.k., bad example <g>. A 300 Mhz box may be different from a 450 Mhz box, but the boxmaker doens't make the mpcs.

True, firms try to make their commodities non-commodities. Look at the Hallmark ads. "Turn the card over and see if it says Hallmark on the back." Who does that? <g> Stop typing your annual report and see if the box says Dell. Same crapola that doens't work.
