Just for the record, if Pfizer and Schering-Plough tried to merge I would have to shoot myself. That company is having a terrible time integrating its disparate businesses and international workforce.

However, given Warner-Lambert's decent drug pipeline, that may be a favorable purchase under the correct circumstances. An interesting side note is Aricept (released by Pfizer recently). It is one of two anticholinesterase drugs for treating Alzheimer's. The other one is owned by Warner-Lambert.

The only problem with these drugs is a rather low efficacy rate and limited effectiveness. About 30% of patients show some positive response to the drug. It slows down mental degradation and shows some improvements over a six month to year period. However, they are not well received by many doctors (at least at Shands Teaching Hospital) because of some muscle control side effects. Acetylcholine is also the neurotransmitter that effects nerve-muscle control and Aricept will have a limited detrimental effect there.

If the drugs grow in effectiveness, Warner-Lambert may be an interesting acquisition. In many industries lately it seems easier to buy a product than develop it yourself. Although with $2B going to R&D this year from Pfizer, 2 more drugs reaching approval (hopefully) this year, and a gob still in the pipeline, who needs acquisitions?

Just my 2 cents.
