Kurt, you are statistically right.
Men presently use the web much more than women. Male users have longer tenure on the web than women, on average. The longer you are on the web, the better your chance of beginning the habit of buying stuff on-line. I can get you a link to demographics W3c endorses, if you want...
All of this should be changing, as the web is a powerful tool for all. And, of course, lots of women are doing top-notch trading on-line. But these are exceptional women, in the best sense of the word.
Advertising to women is a progressive move. They are a powerful demographic. Traditionally, many women are very conservative (overly so) financially. I do not see JBOH providing the educational materials appropriate to novice investors. Compare with Vanguard!
I was just reading a book on web marketing strategies... sorry I don't recall the title, it's written on a little piece of paper someplace... and this idea of marketing to women is one of their classic mistakes. You can't just target to women, you have to provide actual differentiated services, then HOPE you can draw from a new and unproven demographic. People are trying, but they may be early. Socially good, short term economically bad.
I just don't see JBOH as a broker for novices. I actually don't see why anyone would use them over a larger house.
I also think that JBOH showed nothing when the sector was on fire, and they'll crack if the sector declines.
Besides, maybe talking to "Michael" your "personal broker" might be targeting a different demographic than you think, sailor! <vbg>
Best wishes,
but I'm happy to be short
