DJ, If you mean Mean Gene Okerlund, you have just passed your drug test. <g> We all saw different stars in different parts of the country. I grew up near San Francisco and our stars were Ray Stevens, Pepper Gomez and Pat Patterson (one of Vince's on screen flunkies now at the WWF, though Pat really is a major part of coming up with the plot lines. The WWF went down hill a couple of years ago when Pat temporarily retired. The guys from the Sodak/Minn area never came to our arenas. We did get some of the New York guys, like Bruno, Classy Freddie Blassie from New York City("You women in San Francisco have never seen a real man before.") Of course, in New York, Fred was from Hollywood. <g>
In Philly at grad school, Bruno was winding down his career. We didn't have a regular group of stars, as they travelled in from what was then called the WWWF.
In Kansas City, I watched Bulldog Bob Brown and Bruiser Brody. In Dallas, it was the Von Erichs and The Freebirds, one of the best rivalries ever done, IMHO. Or, it was until the Von Erichs started dying. In Houston, we had Junk Yard Dog, two Hacksaws, Butch Reed and Jim Duggan, the rookie years of Rock and Sting, who later became Sting and first The Dingo Warrior and finally The Ultimate Warrior.
In Many No Place, we had the wrestlers you talk about, along with Bockwinkle, Rick Martel, and The Road Warriors.
