>if the guns were taken away there would be less violence<

Let's see, I'll try at least to be logical, not emotional. Let me know if I even come close.

Police carry guns and are what stand between criminals and the general populace, at least sometimes.
Criminals carry guns to be on an equal footing with the police and to enforce their power over their general populace.
The general populace does not carry or even own a gun because they............................................(looking for a logical answer.) Ok I'll make some up and see if they make sense..

People do not believe in the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It would be a burden to protect your own life when you pay good money to the government to do it for you. My life and the lives of my family are not worth the trouble of owning a gun and besides, I've never felt threatened. Crime is just a statistic to me, I've never known anyone who has been the victim of a violent crime.

If you have the right to life, the most basic and the first mentioned in the Bill of Rights, just how do you (we) propose to protect this right. With a law? How about a fortress, an alarm system, a guard dog, bullet-proof vests, armored cars, body guards. Expensive. So if you're rich, you don't need to own a gun. It seems strange that Clinton would be favor of lessening the right to own a gun. He and his family are protected 24/7 by people with guns. Probably doesn't even carry a wallet. I doubt he fears for his life, but others definitely do.

We defend the whole country with arms from enemies from outside. This makes sense to us. Don't want to lose those freedoms to some foreigners. Anyone who lives in the country, however is welcome to take my life, my families or my neighbor's and I am feeling OK that I was unable and unprepared to do anything about it.

Will we get to the point where we make the police count to ten before they even consider pulling their gun out,? hey that will cut down on the violence.

When all the emotionalism dies down somewhat, try to make a logical argument that says force is not needed to keep and protect our most basic rights.

Wishing that we lived in a more perfect world
