halfscot,
From Dell's 10-Q which showed up on Yahoo a couple hours ago...

>During fiscal year 1999, the Company repurchased 149 million shares of common stock for an
aggregate cost of $1.5 billion, primarily to manage the dilution resulting from shares issued under the
Company's employee stock option and purchase plans. The Company is currently authorized to
repurchase up to 200 million additional shares of its outstanding common stock and anticipates that
repurchases will constitute a significant use of future cash resources. At January 29, 1999, the
Company held equity instrument contracts that entitle it to purchase 49 million additional shares of
common stock at an average cost of $14 per share at various times through the third quarter of fiscal
year 2000. For additional information regarding the Company's stock repurchase program, see Note
6 of Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements included in "Item 8 Financial Statements and
Supplementary Data."<
