ciVic: Those forms you refer to are IRS forms. I recently filled out the W-8 Form relating to another matter. Here's what they are: W-8: Certificate of Foreign Status -- form that is simple to fill out and only requires you to attest that you are not an American citizen or have resident status. You simply fill in your name and sign it. Form 1001: Ownership, Exemption, or Reduced Rate Certificate -- this form is filled out by you and is filed by a Withholding Agent. It allows you, as a foreigner, to be exempt from withholding taxes according to tax treaties. The form is straight-forward.
