I hold and watch both QDEL and CMTR, and clearly QDEL is ahead in HP testing. In fact, I find it a little distressing that QDEL has yet to realize a significant revenue stream from its test, which has been available for over a year. From everything I can glean, it seems that the medical community is still largely unaware of these tests, so QDEL is doing the right thing with its PG promotion strategy.

I hope these quick-diagnostics tests are not too much ahead of the acceptance curve, and that they will start to generate significant revenue for both QDEL and CMTR soon.

One thing is certain, as the market proves itself, more and more competition is going to jump in. Expect to see consolidation and shakeout among the minor players in a year or two. Under that scenario, QDEL appears to be large enough to come out as one of the dominant players.
