Those of you aware of the atmosphere of MCI in the late 80's and early 90's know what a driven, 'burn-out-prone', but exciting entreprenurial telecom environment feels like. It seems to me that Qwest is even more driven, but without the feeling of teamwork that follows from widely-shared long-term business goals (something that made 80-hour weeks survivable for some in the old MCI). A rather minor example: The bureaucracy-level of everyday activity at Qwest is incredible - a product of a railroad heritage? or of innundation by AT&T executives?

I remain impressed with the high-bandwidth infrastructure that Qwest is building, and am an investor based on that capability alone. However, I wonder about the level of support being given to the development and marketing of traditional long distance voice services.

Note: I am not now nor ever have been an employee of either MCI or Qwest.
