Graham, thanks for mentioning cationic peptides. I did a search on patent.womplex.ibm.com and found some hits for cationic and peptide; patent 5459235, assigned to regents of u.calif.
Unfortunately, this does not lead us to micrologic biotech! The only other cationic peptide patent was 5120829, also in Calif, for a Cancer lab.

The 5459235 patent referenced no other, nor has it been referenced itself. This indicates it is either too new, or not deemed a core patent. It builds on no other patent, which could mean it is something unique.
There were no patents assigned to Micrologic, nor to Hancock, on the database.

ABSTRACT: The present invention provides a new family of cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptides isolated from bovine neutrophils herein
named beta defensins. Thirteen structurally homologous peptides were purified to homogeneity from a granule-rich cytoplasmic fraction of
purified blood neutrophils. These antimicrobial compounds are useful in human and veterinary medicine, and as agents in agricultural, food
science, and industrial applications.
