you are correct, they have begun the conversion of San Antonio to 8" and claimed 0.15u ( vlsi.com ). however, my real point was the ibm was still quite a bit further along. I believe they were at 0.18u over a year ago on 8" but more importantly, they have had 6 metal layers and copper lines. I was not saying VLSI has bad / non moder technology, just that IBM was further ahead on the technology curve.
