Mika: A voice of reason. Congratulations. Agree war mongoring is passe. Curiosity is not however. Looks like all of us who are curious will have to wait awhile for details on the degree of convergence.

Sadly the war of labels such as WCDMA continues. What the Asians' might call "face". When will a spade be a spade and the two "sub" standards within CDMA be discussed as "direct sequence" and "spread spectrum"? As you point out, the third alternative will probably be little used and if used die on the vine. So there are two real contenders. So what will be most interesting will be what (if anything) will be the practical differences between the two? Clearly no one knows yet since key decisions - such as chip rate - have not yet been made.

Recognize Ericsson is maintaining the WCDMA label for marketing and prestige purposes. But pleased to see that the bulk of the press release simply referred to 3rg gen without using divisive language. Perhaps this is progress. Who knows. Chaz
