Exxon expands Malaysia gas output in view of the increasing gas demand

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Reuters) - Esso Production Malaysia Inc said it has completed expansion work on a gas platform off Malaysia which will raise gas production to 700 million standard cubic feet per day from 450 million scfd currently.

The Malaysian unit of Exxon Inc (XON - news) said in a statement to the national Bernama news agency that it had installed two additional compression modules at the Lawit A platform at a cost of 224 million ringgit.

It said the modules were added in view of the increasing gas demand in Malaysia.

Gas from Lawit A, off the northeastern state of Terengganu, began flowing in 1997. The gas is shipped via a 240-km pipeline to onshore processing plants in Kerteh.
