Wow, this is nuts. In the last few minutes, I've seen this story on Wired (they seemed to take it in stride), CNNFN Digital Jam ("Business Wire Sues For Internet Investment Scam Release" - ouch, what a sensational headline), News.com/Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com) and of course BusinessWire.

I imagine there will be plenty of in-depth stories on this in the newspapers. Seemed like it was intended as only a practical joke. Motley Fool pulled off an April Fool's stunt with articles on the faux online venture "eMeringue". [ fool.com ]. But in wake of the Pairgain/Bloomberg scandal, BusinessWire's lack of humor underlies their paranoid fear of being a litigation target. And that they too were fooled by the joke.

But hey, I can understand the distress. They fooled a lot of naieve people chasing dot-com mania -- people who are now quite irate...
