Boy arent' you a bunch of happy little campers! ! ! I'm out all afternoon trying to dig up some positive info hoping to cheer up my fellow longs and what do I find? All these smiling faces! ! !
Well , I'll tell you anyway. Tracked down John Simons, U.S. News & World Report at their Washington D.C. office. Nice guy. Came across as informed and objective. Here's the gist of our conversation;
Q: Out of all the companies in the Y2K arena, how did you come to pick an unknown, startup company like MatriDigm?
A: The activity in Zitel's stock, price run up etc., had a lot of people asking what was going on. Was there something concrete there or was it "irrational exuberance" (great phrase) driving the stock. That's what initially peaked his interest.
PERSONAL NOTE: His investigation re:Zirel/MatriDigm didn't begin until the middle of January so all this info is relatively current! !
Q: How did you research MatriDigm, it's product and potential.
A: By contacting and speaking with people who follow these kinds of technologies at reputable companies. Forrester; Data Quest; I.D.C.
Q: What was their opinion of the company?
A: Extremely strong management team, that's the first thing they look at. People he dealt/spoke with have seen the technology, been to the factory, and based on their statements they ,Zitel/MatriDigm, are the most likely competition for the IBM/Peritus team as he suggested in his article.
Q: Did you run this article by anyone at IBM before printing it, just in case they might be offended at being mentioned in the same breath with MatriDigm?
A: No. They don't seek approval from outsiders for their articles.
Well that was my assignment for the day. Hope this too has brought a smile or two to your faces. I know I feel better, now I'll go listen to that interview.

P.P.S. Also got a call into Hank Harris @ Zitel. May not be necessary after listening to the interview? Wanted to tell him I'll sign over my proxies if he tells me a believable story about wanting to move to Delaware,sssshhh(I'll ask about IBM too ! ! )
