say thry've got the technology now but lack effective marketing presence.


The industry is highly patent-intensive as well as rife with some high barriers to entry. In the area of lithium niobates, for example, there are only four companies in the world who have the technology: UNPH, LU, Sumitomo and IOC. SDLI just acquired IOC. JDS/UNPH and SDLI are the only pure players that I know of.
