PPI, Don't Look Now, But Your Inflation Is Showing

In the interest of truth and accuracy, the BLS keeps making changes in the way it calculates the CPI. I'm all in favor of truth and accuracy, but these alterations make year-over-year percent changes in the less truthful and accurate because the BLS compares this year's CPI, which is calculated with the new methodology, with last year's, which is calculated with an outdated methodology. So, year-over-year calculations in the CPI are like comparing apples with esrogs. Because the BLS calculation changes in the CPI have served to lower it, then year-over-year comparisons are biased downward.
