Intel "disappointed" by AMD's K7

Impeccable sources at Intel have described AMD's floating point (FP)
performance as disappointing.

Last week, an engineer at AMD told us that a K7-500MHz scores an FPU
Winmark of 2767, compared to a Winmark of 2562 for a Pentium III/500.
(See story)

That is if these figures are true.

A senior figure working at Intel Israel who wishes to remain anonymous
today said: "I really am disappointed with the K7 so far. AMD has made us
a better company and I don't want them exterminated."

He said that AMD had galvanised activities at Intel.

But he also had some words of criticism for AMD. "They really should blab
less and work on their process more. I am convinced that their problems
aren't because they only have one fab, or we [Intel] have more money. No
Intel fab has ever halted dead in its tracks the way AMD's Fab 25 did." "

Sounds like they were talking to Elmer. <G>
