J.D. Edwards and IBM Extend Alliance to Improve Communication and Integration of Data and Applications Across Customer Supply Chains
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1999--
IBM Delivers ERPbridge/DCConnect for J.D. Edwards Applications
Enterprise business software provider J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq:JDEC) and IBM today enhanced their 20-year alliance to improve application integration across their customers' supply chains by announcing ERPbridge for J.D. Edwards and DCConnect data collection software. Allowing organizations to rapidly execute ideas, deliver products and automate processes, the ERPbridge connectivity software and DCConnect Data Collection Software toolkit Data Collection Connection (DCConnect), is now available for J.D. Edwards SCOREx (supply chain optimization and real-time extended execution) applications.
New Holland N.V. chose IBM's ERPbridge for J.D. Edwards and DCConnect data collection software to address two general requirements: timely information on production status and accurate part availability information for assembly line scheduling. "We chose IBM's ERPbridge/DCConnect because it is a dynamic system, able to handle our high volume of transactions," says Jerry Benton, manufacturing engineer at New Holland. "Also, it provided flexibility, using user-written scripts to define exactly how transactions are entered and processed." The switch to a bar code system for data entry has significantly reduced the manual keying of data. Thanks to bar codes and front-end editing at the data collection terminals, errors are reduced. The consensus around New Holland is that their ERP implementation was a smooth and successful one, and more quickly yielded benefits because of the simultaneous introduction of J.D. Edwards and IBM's ERPbridge for J.D. Edwards and DCConnect.
"J.D. Edwards and IBM's customers require agility and the ability to execute their ideas and business processes quickly throughout the entire supply chain, in order to improve customer satisfaction, remain competitive and expand market share," said Michael Schmitt, senior vice president, J.D. Edwards. "The enterprise application bridge enables organizations to adapt to changing business requirements, extend functionality, and seamlessly integrate and tailor new applications -- in the field, on the fly."
IBM's ERPbridge provides direct interface to J.D. Edwards' SCOREx applications including Inventory, Sales Order Processing, Purchase Order Processing, Shop Floor Control, Warehouse Management, Transportation Management and Equipment Management. The flexible architecture of the DCConnect solution provides a highly reliable and sophisticated data collection environment that is easy to manage, easy to use, and can be combined to tailor a solution for company's unique requirements. ERPbridge and DCConnect run in Microsoft Window NT or IBM OS/2 operating environments and integrate with J.D. Edwards' WorldSoftware release A7.1 or higher and OneWorld release B73.3. DCConnect supports a wide variety of fixed and wireless data collection terminals from Intermec Technologies, Symbol Technologies, and Telxon Corporation. IBM's Data Collection software solution offerings including software enablers and application programs are installed in over 1,500 customer locations worldwide.
