Franklin announces expansion
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 1997-- Franklin Telecom
(OTC BB: FTEL) Monday
announced that is has signed a lease to expand its headquarters in Westlake
Village.
This move is being undertaken in order to accommodate increased production
demands for its hardware
products.
According to Frank Peters, Franklin's president and CEO, "We have been
urgently seeking additional space near
our present location. As we have geared up the production ramp for our
D-Mark Channel Banks, we have
discovered that we simply can't handle the volume in our current plant. We
first moved into this building in 1981;
during the last couple of years, while our focus was on research and
development, it sometimes seemed as
though we were drowning in space, but now, we've gone from that into
practically having to stack people on top
of each other. In the last 12 months, our on-site work force has more than
quadrupled and we have added two
new production areas, not including the Cyclone."
Mike Peters, engineering manager said, "This will also allow our sales and
customer support departments to bring
on additional personnel which they need. FNet, which has just celebrated
its first birthday on Feb. 4, continues to
expand rapidly. Our infrastructure, including the GTE OC 24 fiber optic
cable installation, is built into this facility,
which means that while we may expand outward in several directions, we're
not going to be abandoning this
location! While this move will help alleviate our current situation, we are
probably looking at the need for
additional space in the near future as the Franklin Cyclone moves into
production. We will add the new facility to
our Internet Network with our Wireless T1 product. We will also take
advantage of this situation to test voice
over this same connection. This could save quite a bit of money as time
goes on."
Jim Sovie, production manager, said that the new area will almost double
the existing space. The new site is
located within the same industrial park, less than a quarter of a mile from
the current hub. The manufacturing
department will move into the new facility as soon as necessary electrical
and structural upgrades can be
completed.
