If you are a short, the answer would be easy- shit happens.

Longs would tell you that it probably has to do with a confluence of a bunch of lines on a chart where the 42 day moving average has exceeded the average mean temperature in Mesa, Arizona for the last three days thereby putting Saturn in its third moon.

Seriously, we are now approaching the point which is the reason why they run horse races. The answer, of course, is to see who wins. Today is somewhat of an anomaly in that there was no news out there to precipitate this move so there must be considerable speculation as to better than anticipated earnings or a satisfactory explanation as to how the convertibles are going to be handled.

It would seem that there has been enough elapse of time for the integration process to be nearing completion and it is possible that
one or more of the former suitors are crooning at the window. Today's rally started in Germany this morning. Drakes tells us that Germans trade differently than Americans so as to lead us to believe that today was meaningless. It is curious that Bayer is a German company which has indicated an intention to spend considerable money in the life sciences sector however, that may just be a coincidence.

After considerable discussion with a number of people today, we don't have the foggiest notion as to what prompted the rise but we're hoping that it repeats itself for the next month or so. Sorry I took so long to say I dunno.
