Tom,
Thanks for the nice post. This is THE ONLY GOOD post out of thousands of posts on this thread. A few ides to explore further.
1) Do you live in USA? I thought USA is capitalist country and people
discourage public welfare. May be they don't have clue. Imagine if everybody in a town (for example I live in a town with 50,000 people
and I pay yearly property tax equal to 37 years worth of current AOL analog modem dial-in monthly access fee) has the same clever idea like yours what will happen to the library information infrastructure?
Don't you think they have to have their own dial-in access facility to support everybody's call? Do you know you have a friend called moocher ?
2) Another brilliant idea of yours is to keep switching every month to enjoy free service. I have a better idea. Make a list of free promotional ISPs
(AOL 100 hours, MSN 1 Month, and so on. say we get 5). Now similarly apply for all credit cards in the world ( hoping that you pay your bills in time) you may be able to get 10 or 15 credit cards. So now if you multiply the number of ISPs in your list with the number of credit cards you are talking about 50 or 60 possible accounts you can create. Now create another list containing all possible variants of your name
(say Tom Smith, Thomo Smith, Ta Smith, To Smith, Tho Smith, Thom Smith all with the same last name and middle name). You should get at least 10 different names. So now multiply that with 50 or 60 combinations that you already created. Now we are in a ball park figure of hundreds. As a final straw you ask you friends (if any) to join the club and all use the same computer (see you don't have to spend a lot
of money buying several computers) and ask them to come up with similar combinations.
Now we are talking in terms of thousands. Now let us start using one combination after another and assume that each combination gives us one free month. Now we are talking about years of free internet. Why go to library?
3) One more idea is let use have a few hundred friends in homeless shelters
and ask them to contribute to the list. So we are talking about millions.
4) Now let us rent one room office and provide a pay-per basis internet access business at a nominal amount of say $1.99 a month. Let us call our venture "Moochers Paradise".
We can make lot of money.
I think you got the idea.
Let us not waste our time hear on this thread with people who cannot even think of these simple ideas. Why waste our time in investing and make money in this emotionally stressful way?
Some day we can laugh at these people. Why not? It is a free country
and we have freedom to do whatever we can.

A final note to my friend Thomas Smith: I won't charge any money for this idea and I will disassociate myself from you and your venture from all benefits, profits and pains.
