The Internet needs bandwidth and therefore cable and fiber optics. Don't tell me about Wireless Broadband till after the Millennium Party (or meltdown if you prefer.) Upside indeed as the world's transmission needs grow exponentially over the next ten years. Foreign and domestic companies...UPCOY, QWST, LVLT, GBLX, MFNX, METNF, ICIX, ICGX to name just a few... will stand to benefit from all forms of .com traffic including TV and Radio traffic, e-commerce, telephony over IP and so on. The argument for these stocks that is commonly made, is that they are an indispensable part of the Internet's infrastructure and stand to benefit without as much risk as the dot-coms. Of course, it's very expensive to build these networks and some of these companies carry a lot of debt but they are signing big, longterm contracts. Their stocks have had similar runups lately.
