I have a question to ask everyone. I live in Virginia, and one of our schools made national news this week because some kids were found to be plotting to do another "Littleton". Those kids have now been charged with "conspiracy to commit murder."

Ok....one of my good friends has a son at this school. There has been rumors that something is to happen this Friday (April 30th) at this school. However, I have read the note that the principal sent home to the parents and it was excellent. He assured the parents of the steps that had been taken to ensure the safety at the school and he said that he wanted the kids to come to school this Friday. Steps to ensure safety are things such as bomb-sniffing dogs checking out the whole school...there are no bombs there....working with the police to ensure extra security this Friday. In fact, probably Friday will be one of the safest days during the whole year.

My friend is agonizing over whether to make her son go there on Friday. She feels she should help her son to have faith in his school and the authorities, but on the other hand, she said to me today that if ANYTHING were to happen on Friday that she would never forgive herself. Her son does not want to go to school on Friday, but she thinks that it's probably as much that he wants a day off from school as it is from fear.

So....here's my question. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Keep your child at home or make him/her go? I'll collect all your answers and show them to my friend tomorrow night (Thursday). I know that in the end she alone has to make the decision, but I thought she might like some input from others. I told her that it was a tough call....and I honestly don't know what I would do if I were in her shoes.

Thanks in advance for any opinions!
Juanita
