<<Derek, the point of our institutional arrangements, in a sense, is to muddle through. They are conservative in the sense that nothing is supposed to happen easily. Thus, the two chambers of the Congress have to agree even to send legislation to the President, and then the President has to agree, or be over- ridden. Is this the recipe for Revolution? I respect Newt, but the revolutionary rhetoric was a big mistake, and set up expectations that could not be fulfilled.>>

Its sad isnt it? We make those who apply for citizenship go through this lengthy civics testing which most Americans probably wouldnt pass! How many Americans do you think could answer a simple question like who wrote the Declaration of Independence? How many do you think could repeat a single phrase from that document? Sad. A big hurdle you'd have to surmount today is that it isnt cool to be smart, and even if you are, it is even less cool to display it... |
