I've never understood the French attitude toward keeping their language pure. Heck, English doesn't care where the word comes from....if it fits, then English just grabs the word and makes it their own. As a result we have probably the richest and most varied language in the world....and also one of the hardest to learn.
Regarding Quebec, I think they've made a mistake in implementing that law regarding French/English signs. If Quebec were in France, that would be one thing...I would EXPECT all signs to be French....but Quebec, whether they like it or not, are part of a country where the national language is English, and besides that, I just thought it was downright rude. In northern New England the signs start to become
bi-lingual in English and French, and I was looking forward to seeing the same courtesy in Quebec. But still had a good time there anyway.
